Eldercare, or caring for an older loved one, now affects 15 to 25 percent of the American workforce. Caregivers often struggle to balance work and eldercare obligations. To help full-time employees balance work demands while taking care of their aging parents, Indiana University provides an Eldercare benefit through My Health Care Manager.
The Personalized Eldercare Program SM provides access to a health care manager (a nurse or social worker) who works with caregivers and seniors on a one-to-one basis to address unique concerns anywhere in the U.S. A health care manager will work with IU employees to understand the care giving situation; identify a strategy for managing it; and develop a plan of action to follow with or without continuing My Health Care Manager assistance.
All full-time Academic and Staff employees of Indiana University are eligible to use the services of My Health Care Manager.
The Personalized Eldercare Program SM consists of three levels: (1) information call, (2) fact finding consultation and recommendation, and (3) ongoing assistance specific to situational needs. IU covers the cost of levels 1 and 2 and it has negotiated reduced rates with My Health Care Manager for level 3. Full-time employees may use the services in one or all levels.
